PUBLIC REALM ASSESSMENT / ŌTAUTAHI CHRISTCHURCH /
CLIENT. Waka Kotahi / ROLE. Research, Analysis & Reporting / TIMEFRAME. 2021 / STATUS. Complete
Understanding ‘what we have’ is a central step on the journey towards ‘where we want to be’. This step helps to inform the type and order of change in the public realm, and also helps to measure the change – a central factor in gaining financial, political or community support for further development.
Our role in this process was to measure and categorise the spatial arrangement of different urban centres through Aotearoa. For example, how much of the city centre is allocated as public space, or how much space is allocated for parking. These categories were then visually represented as metrics, to help inform and measure future change.
In addition to Christchurch, we have also undertaken similar studies in Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga, Wellington and Nelson.
